Into the Woods
This is one of my favorites from my Northern CA series. This shot was taken at the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens along one of the perimeter trails.

River Song
Swift and silent and strong
Under the low-browed arches,
Through culverts, and under bridges,
Sweeping with long forced marches
Down to the ultimate ridges,--
The sand, and the reeds, and the midges,
And the down-dropping tassels of larches,
That border the ocean of song.
Under the low-browed arches,
Through culverts, and under bridges,
Sweeping with long forced marches
Down to the ultimate ridges,--
The sand, and the reeds, and the midges,
And the down-dropping tassels of larches,
That border the ocean of song.

Autumn's Gold
Along the tops of all the yellow trees,
The golden-yellow trees, the sunshine lies;
And where the leaves are gone, long rays surprise
Lone depths of thicket with their brightnesses;
And through the woods, all waste of many a breeze,
Cometh more joy of light for Poet's eyes--
Green fields lying yellow underneath the skies,
And shining houses and blue distances.
By the roadside, like rocks of golden ore
That make the western river-beds so bright,
The briar and the furze are all alight!
Perhaps the year will be so fair no more,
But now the fallen, falling leaves are gay,
And autumn old has shone into a Day!

Rancho California RV Resort
Spent the weekend in our new RV at the Rancho California RV Resort just east of Temecula. Here are a few morning shots of one of the lakes at the campground.

Around San Diego
I've been out of commission for a couple of weeks and am slowly getting back into shooting. I went out and about San Diego on Saturday and came out with a few shots I am happy with.
San Diego bay has some transient anchorage where people can moor their boats for a few weeks (some stay longer it seems). This little dock is for the dinghy's they use to get to and from their boat and whatever they need to do on land. Saturday seems to be a fairly busy day here.

Spring House
This stone structure encloses a spring for the inhabitants of the Rancho de Los Penasquitos adobe house. Below is the barn on the property.

Miniature Works of Art
I went to a car show last weekend at Balboa Park. The models ran the gamut from 1917 Fords to 2010 Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers. While it was fun to look at all of the cars, I became enamored with the hood ornaments on the 40s and 50s models. I realize that most of today's sleek designs are not conducive to sporting a little statuette on the hood, but these little pieces of art were the hit of the show for me.

Ghost Town
Just got back from a quick trip to the Eastern Sierras in California. Got a few shots from Bodie to show. Bodie was a thriving mining town during the gold rush of the late 19th century. As with most booms there is always a bust and when this town went bust everyone seemed to leave in a hurry. There are some very interesting artifacts that have been left behind. From the later settlers there are even some horseless carriages laying in ruin.
